Argentina have done it again! I think they have made it a habit for mercurial comebacks after 83 minutes of play, consistently in this World Cup.
England dominated the first 84 minutes, leading 1-0 in a very tense semi final and really paving the way for their first World Cup final since 1966. Then, everything changed. Again.
Enzo Fernandez showed why he is considered to be one of the best players in the world today. An assist from Messi and Fernandez equaliser ensured Argentina stayed alive in this completion. And then, Lautaro Martinez netted the perfect header (another fabulous assist from Messi) to seal the game for Argentina and end England’s World Cup campaign in a dramatic fashion.
As Alan Shearer put it aptly – they are champions for a reason. Indeed, though England were the best team for most of the 80+ minutes of the game. But the magic for Argentina in the last 13 minutes of every game continues to haunt every opposition they have played against till now in the tournament.
The Messi saga continues and I can’t wait to celebrate the Argentine story that has unfolded so astonishingly in this World Cup.
Come Sunday, and… I won’t say. Till the finals then. A thriller is on the cards. Argentina vs Spain it is.
